Fazilnagar also known as Pawanagar or Pawapuri ,is a block in Kushinagar district of the state of Uttar Pradesh in India. It is a block of Kasia Tehsil ( Revenue Sub- Divisions), one of the four tehsils in Kushinagar. The pin code of Fazilnagar is 274401. Fazilnagar officially lies in the postal division of Deoria, postal region of Gorakhpur and postal circle of Uttar Pradesh. It is 55 km from Deoria and 69 km from Gorakhpur.

History

Fazilnagar is also known by the name of 'Pawanagar'. It is believed as the place where Lord Mahavir attained Nirvana. It is also believed that Lord Buddha, while going to Kushinagar from Vaishali, stayed here over night to accept meals from one of his disciples. There is also a tale which says Lord Buddha died here.

Fazilnagar is situated on NH-28 and has a good market. It serves as a central market for the adjoining villages.

Amawa Tiwari, Jokwa,Sohang, Ashogava are some of the adjoining villages near Fazilnagar. It serves as a central market for villages in around radius of 10-12 kilometers.

Education

Fazilnagar has one degree college also namely Shri Bhagwan Mahavir Post Graduate College Pawanagar. Anand Mission Intermediate College is also situated in Fazilnagar near degree College. Pawanagar Mahavir Inter College( a government senior secondary school) is the oldest one.

The language is Bhojpuri as this place was also under King Bhoj of 11th century.
