Fenchihu Old Street

The Fenchihu Old Street (Chinese: 奮起湖老街; pinyin: Fènqǐhú Lǎojiē) is a street in Zhuqi Township, Chiayi County, Taiwan.[1][2]

History

After the Alishan Forest Railway was opened in 1919, Fenchihu became a large loading center. People from nearby towns came to Fenchihu for business which made the street became the most prosperous high mountain street at that time.

Architecture

The street is 500 meters in length with buildings along the street were built following the slope of the street which sits on a hill slope. The street is located 1,400 meters above sea level and filled with restaurants and souvenir shops.

Transportation

The street is accessible within walking distance south of Fenqihu Station of Alishan Forest Railway.
