Fernando Hernandez Leyva (born 1964), was a Mexican born serial killer. Not much is known about his childhood so it is uncertain what led him in developing such a violent behavior, which resulted in more than 100 murders and 6 kidnappings. The actual number of victims estimated to have been killed by Fernando Hernandez's hands is 137, but as time goes by and investigations proceed, this number is rising. During a period of 13 years, he was arrested twice and managed to escape both times from his prison cell. In 1999 he was arrested again, but this time did not try to escape. He tried to commit suicide by hanging himself in his prison cell which did not have the outcome he was hoping for, since he was a 300-pound man. As a result, the rope broke and he suffered some minor injuries. Later that time, a psychological exam, referring to Fernando Hernandez, was conducted by the police and concluded that he was a psychopath who murdered for personal satisfaction(Wetsch,1995–2005).
