Major works by Ferruccio Busoni, a composer of the late-Romantic period, appear in an overview of the very detailed complete list of his compositions. They are listed by the number in the catalogue Busoni-Verzeichnis (BV) which is roughly chronological. Other information are the title, key, year of composition, Opus number (Op.), genre and text authors.
History
Busoni composed music in many genres. A pianist himself, he wrote original compositions and adaptations for the instrument, piano concertos and concertante music for the instrument, often playing the premieres. He composed a Piano Concerto which takes 70 minutes to perform and incorporates in the last of five movements a men's chorus for text from the final scene of the verse drama Aladdin by Adam Oehlenschläger, a hymn to Allah.[1][2][3] He wrote many transcriptions and adaptations of the works of other composers, notably Johann Sebastian Bach, culminating in the Bach-Busoni Edition. His tutorial material for the piano appears collected in the work in ten volumes Klavierübung.[4][5]
Busoni wrote operas, concertos, choral music, chamber music and art songs. He assigned opus numbers to his works but not consistently, several numbers more than once. A comprehensive systematic catalogue of Busoni's works was prepared by Kindermann. It is presented as BV (Busoni-Verzeichnis, Busoni catalogue), sometimes also as KiV (Kindermann-Verzeichnis, Kindermann catalogue).
Table of compositions
The table is sortable by title, opus, year of composition, genre and BV catalogue number. Numbers beginning with A refer to the appendix of the catalogue, numbers beginning with B to Busoni's adaptations and transcriptions. For some compositions, additional details are included, such as a translation of the title, the scoring (if not clear from the title or the genre), the key, and information on texts. All entries refer in the last column to the more detailed lists.
