Ferrymead 125

Ferrymead 125 was a celebration of 125 years of the New Zealand Railways in New Zealand held in October 1988 in Christchurch.

Overview

Over one week shuttle trains hauled by the Canterbury Railway Societys C 864 from the 2nd Christchurch railway station to Ferrymead station at the Ferrymead Heritage Park to Lyttelton. Every evening during the week the Rail Heritage Trust of New Zealands W 192 hauled trains from the Christchurch station to Rangiora and return. During the last weekend three excursion were held: JA 1250 from the Glenbrook Vintage Railway and J 1211 from the Mainline Steam Heritage Trust from Christchurch to Timaru on the Saturday and Christchurch to Arthurs Pass on the Monday while DG 772 and DE 511 (both from the Diesel Traction Group hauled an excursion from Christchurch to Springfield during the same weekend. A cavalcade was held on the Sunday that included 31 as far north as Auckland and far south as Lorneville.
