The Fiji Institute of Technology (FIT) is a university based in Fiji. It has 4 campuses in Suva, Ba, Nadi and Labasa. It was established in 1963 to provide Technical and vocational education aimed at training students in technical disciplines to meet the engineering human resource needs of Fiji. It has evolved to providing education to cater for the total human resource needs of Fiji and the South Pacific.
Today, professional, technical and academic courses at certificate, diploma, advanced diploma and degree levels are being offered at FIT through the Faculty of Commerce, Hospitality and Tourism Studies (FCHTS), the Faculty of Applied Science and Engineering and Maritime Studies (FASEMS) and the Faculty of Humanities, Communications and Creative Arts (FHCCA). FIT has over 20,000 students enrolled in over 120 programmes on all 4 campuses. It is one of the largest face-to-face deliverer of tertiary education in the South Pacific.
In 2009, FIT established three research centres, aimed at advancing core clusters of research that are relevant to Fiji and the Pacific :
- The Centre for Applied Economic Research aims to undertake applied research in all areas related to economic development of Fiji.
- The Centre for Sustainable Technology and Development aims to enhance research and development work in all areas of technology for development.
- The Centre for Drama and Creative Arts aims to enhance all aspects of drama and visual & creative arts.
