First Baptist Church is an historic Baptist church building at 253 Lawrence Street in Methuen, Massachusetts. The First Baptist Church was formed on March 1, 1815 with thirteen members and services were held in the Daniel Frye house and in an old meeting house which was enlarged twice. In 1840 they built a church on this site which burned in 1869. The present church was built in 1869 and dedicated in January 1870. The bell, which was cast in Baltimore and weighed 1600 lb was installed in 1878.[2] The steeple was removed in 1913.[3] The church is a massive example of the Carpenter Gothic style of architecture. It was added to the National Historic Register in 1984.
