Flawed is the upcoming eighth studio album by American R&B recording artist Usher, set to be released in 2016, on RCA Records. Several producers were involved with the album's production, including Eric Bellinger, Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, Brian Alexander Morgan and Pharrell Williams. Originally planned to be released in September 2014, the album's release date was pushed back indefinitely.

Background

In an interview with singer-songwriter Eric Bellinger by Rap-Up, Bellinger explained that he, along with Jermaine Dupri, Bryan-Michael Cox, and Brian Alexander Morgan, were working on Usher's next album.[1] Bellinger compared the album's music to Usher's Confessions (2004), saying that it is "more urban" than Looking 4 Myself.[1] The latter declared that his next album would show that he is "still Usher".[1] In a later interview with Billboard, Bellinger explained that Usher created music for his previous albums based on what people wanted to hear.[2] For his follow-up project, he chose to do music based on "what he wants to do in his heart", placing R&B as the album's main focus.[2] On January 6, 2014, RCA Records CEO Peter Edge described Usher's album as "one of his best records," and stated that new music from the record would be released in conjunction with his return on the 6th season of The Voice, on February 24.[3]

The album would feature several guest appearances, including Nicki Minaj, Pop & Oak, Pharrell Williams, Jermaine Dupri, Diplo, Ed Sheeran, Skrillex, Drake and Chris Brown.[4][5] Usher teamed up with Honey Nut Cheerios in a conjoint promotional effort, where the singer is shown dancing to the album's second single "She Came to Give It to You" with the Honey Nut Cheerios bee. During the outset of the commercial, the album's title was rumored to be UR, the singer's initials.[6] On September 8, 2014, Usher told Billboard that the album would be indefinitely delayed, though wouldn't divulge further into details due to the album not being finished; it was to be originally released in September 2014.[4]

On January 14, 2016, after continual delays of his eighth album, Usher announced via Twitter that the official title of the album would be titled Flawed. It is scheduled to be released in late 2016.[7]

Singles

The album's lead single, "Good Kisser", was released through digital download on May 5, 2014 and sent to Urban adult contemporary radio on May 12.[8][9] It was written by Usher, Andrew Wansel, Foster Sylvers, Ronald Colson, Jameel Roberts, Terry Sneed and Warren Felder. It was produced by Wansel, Flippa, Jproof and Tru. The song peaked at number 65 on the US Billboard Hot 100,[10] number seventeen on the Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs chart and at number ten on the UK Singles Chart.[11][12] Its music video was also released on May 5, and was directed by Christopher Sims;[13] it features model Felicia Fo Porter.[14]

"She Came to Give It to You" was released as the second single on July 8, 2014.[15] It features rapper Nicki Minaj, and was written by the latter, Usher and Pharrell Williams, who also produced the track. Usher has performed the song with Minaj at the 2014 MTV Video Music Awards.[16] The song has so far peaked at number 89 on the Hot 100 chart.[10]

"I Don't Mind" was released on November 21, 2014, as the third official single. It features American rapper Juicy J.[17] The latter since peaked at #54 on the Billboard Hot 100.

Tour

On August 25, Usher announced that he would embark on 'The UR Experience' tour, with August Alsina as an opening act, in support of the album.[18] Dates and venues for the tour were revealed on September 3, with the tour to be performed in 27 cities. It would commence on November 1, 2014 in the Bell Centre, Montreal and conclude on December 14, 2014 in the Tampa Bay Times Forum, Tampa.[19]
