Flying Star is a privately owned and operated fast food restaurant chain in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
History
Flying Star's first location was opened in 1987 on Central Avenue in the Nob Hill area of Albuquerque, near the UNM campus. At the time it was named Double Rainbow, as it was a franchisee of San Francisco ice cream chain of the same name.[1] The two businesses entered into an agreement regarding the common use of the name, but eventually the Albuquerque location wanted to branch out into food restaurants and the agreement was revisited; as a result, Flying Star changed their name.[2]
Since 1987 Flying Star has expanded to seven locations in Albuquerque, with four more locations in Bernalillo, Corrales and Santa Fe.[3] The Downtown Albuquerque location is housed in the former Southern Union Gas Company Building, which is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.[4]
