Folk Idol
Folk Idol, a tongue-in-cheek take on the Pop Idol franchise, is an annual live event in London run by music promotion agency The Local. Contestants are required to wear a beard and play covers of two folk songs, after which they are judged by a panel of experts. Judges' points are combined with audience applause to get the final score for each participant. The first folk idol was covered on BBC Radio 4's Today programme.[1]
Previous winners include Emma Tricca, John Smith and Left with Pictures, with contestants including Congregation, RG Morrisson, Annie Windley, The Straw Bear Band, brody & quint, and Candythief.
