Fort Dorchester High School is a public high school located in North Charleston, South Carolina and is a part of Dorchester School District Two.
Academics
The school offers Honors and Advanced Placement elective courses for students. It also offers the world-renowned International Baccalaureate (IB) program. Advanced Placement is offered for Calculus AB, English Language, English Literature, European History, US History, US Government and numerous college art level classes for students.
Fine Arts
The school has a wide range of fine arts. Fort Dorchester offers chorus, theatre, art, dance, and much more. The band program at Fort Dorchester offers concert band, jazz band, wind ensemble, symphonic band, percussion ensemble, world percussion, indoor percussion, winter guard and marching band. The indoor percussion and winter guard place 1st and the CWEA championships in 2015.
Athletics
Fort Dorchester's mascot is the Patriot, and its colors are red, blue, and white. Their rivals are Summerville High School, and Ashley Ridge High School. The team had a combined record of nine wins and four losses in their 2007 and 2008 seasons. The football team went 7-5 in the 2011 regular season. The football team went 15-0 and won their first ever 4A State Championship for their 2015 season.[1] Fort Dorchester's stadium is named after former head coach John Bagwell, who coached the football team from the school's opening until his death in 2002.
Fort was state wrestling champion for the 2006-2007 and 2009-2010 seasons.
Fort's Men's Varsity Swim Team won the Region Championship Meet back to back in 2008-2009. They also took first place in their region in the 2010, 2011, and 2012 seasons. The Women's Varsity Swim Team won the Region Championship in 2009 and 2010.
The Men's Varsity Basketball Team went 13-1 in the 2009-2010 season. Their only loss to Goose Creek.
Fort Dorchester Men's Varsity Golf took 1st place in the state in the 2011 season.
Cross Country reached 4th place in the state one season recently, and 7th in the east coast. Girls ranking first in the district.
The football team in the 2015-2016 season also went undefeated and won the state championship against Dorman high school.
Demographics
To ease over crowding in Fort Dorchester the district built the new Ashley Ridge High School, which opened in fall 2008. Fort Dorchester was built to hold 2,300 students.
