Four Guns to the Border is a 1954 American Technicolor Western released by Universal-International, The film was based on the 1949 short story In Victorio's Country by Louis L'Amour.[1] Produced by William Alland, it was the second directorial work of actor Richard Carlson. The working title and title of the UK release of the film was Shadow Valley. The film was shot on location in Apple Valley, California[2]

Plot

In 1881 a quartet of bandits have their eye or robbing the bank of Cholla. Though several attempts at robbery have ended disastrously for the bank robbers, Cully the leader of the gang has a plan to make the robbery work. On their way they meet Simon Bhumer and his daughter Lolly. Dutch, one of Cully's gang, was a former friend of Simon when both were gunfighters until Simon gave up gunslinging to settle down and raise a family, though his wife was later killed in an Indian attack. The gang meets up again with Simon and Lolly at their friend Greasy's general store and all see the signs of major Apache activity leading to war. Though Cully and Lolly hate each other at first, each senses something in the other that makes them change their minds. They separate when Cully's gang has their bank robbery in Cholla and Simon and Lolly are riding to their new farm at Shadow Valley.

Cully's plan is to ride into his former town of Cholla where he was expelled by his rival Jim Flannery, now the town sheriff. As all the menfolk in town watch Cully and Jim beat the living daylights out of each other, the three other members of the gang rob the bank without incident or witnesses and lock the two staff inside. Heading for the Mexican border, the gang sees that the Apaches are on the warpath. Cully has to choose between being safe and rich in Mexico or rescuing Simon and Lolly from an Apache war party.
