FrancAnglais

FrancAnglais is a local language variety spoken in Cameroon. It is a blend of French, English and Pidgin English and is predominantly spoken in the Douala and Yaounde areas which are the capital cities of the Littoral and Centre regions respectively. These areas are predominantly French-speaking or Francophone areas, and FrancAnglais is commonly spoken by the younger inhabitants as opposed to the older generation.

In recent years, FrancAnglais has become more and more popular with the presence of Hip Hop culture. It is mostly used by young artists in the hip hop milieu because it is considered more hip or "street". Speaking FrancAnglais gives you much street credibility which is essential to the identity of the artist, because it shows he comes from the "ghetto" and can identify with the common folk.

A few examples of phrases in FrancAnglais and their English translations:

Tu came a la maison? - Are you coming to the house?
Je go do le way la - I'm going to do the thing
Il speak que quoi? - What is he talking about/ what is he saying?
Falla le man la - Follow that man
