Franz Nölken
Franz Nölken (born 5 May 1884, Hamburg; died 4 November 1918 in La Capelle, Département Aisne, France) was a German expressionist painter, member of the artistic group Die Brücke.
Biography
At the age of 16, he dropped his education in Gelehrtenschule des Johanneums and attended the painting school of Arthur Siebelist.
In his life, he was associated, amongst others, with artists like Edvard Munch, Emil Nolde, Karl Schmidt-Rottluff and Henri Matisse.
Drafted to the army, he died on the French front a week before the end of World War I, aged 34.
