Fred Segal is a clothing and merchandise retail store founded in West Hollywood, California, with its flagship store on Melrose Avenue in West Hollywood.

History

Over five decades ago, Fred Segal opened the world's first jeans-only store. This 300-square-foot store grew over the years, and with the expansion, Segal invited key managers to purchase and run select boutiques within their respective area of merchandising expertise within the Fred Segal center.

There are currently two Fred Segal locations in the United States, one in West Hollywood on Melrose Avenue and the other at LAX’s Thomas Bradley International Terminal. There are two international flagships in Japan, one in the Daikanyama neighborhood of Tokyo and the other in Yokohama.

In May 2012, the worldwide licensing rights to the brand were acquired by SANDOW, a leader that builds smart businesses driven by innovation across design, fashion and beauty owned by Adam Sandow.[1]

Expansion

In late 2012, SANDOW announced Fred Segal's aggressive expansion strategy to open new flagship locations, both internationally and domestically, launch Fred Segal’s first ecommerce site, and create private merchandise lines.

In May 2014, SANDOW and Fred Segal announced the partnership with equity investor Evolution Media Partners (Evolution), a joint venture between Evolution Media Capital (EMC), an entertainment, media and sports merchant bank formed in partnership with Creative Artists Agency (CAA); TPG Growth, the middle market and growth equity investment platform of global investment firm TPG; and Participant Media, the global entertainment company founded in 2004 by Jeff Skoll.
