Freenet (ISP)

Freenet was New Zealand's first free internet service provider. It was founded in 2001 as a subsidiary of Compass Communications Ltd, and offered free internet up to May 1, 2005.

Freenet now offers paid dial-up service to its customers.

Freenet original business model had services funded through the interconnection charges between PSTN network operators within New Zealand at the time.
