Freshwater biology
Freshwater biology is the scientific biological study of freshwater ecosystems and is a branch of limnology. It seeks to understand the relationships between living organisms in freshwater and their physical and chemical environment. The discipline is also widely used in a number of industrial processes such as sewage treatment[1] and water purification which utilise biological processes to effect purification.
In the UK the Freshwater Biological Association[2] is based near Windermere in Cumbria.
