Friary Court
Friary Court is a courtyard in St James's Palace, in London. It is overlooked by the Proclamation Gallery, where a new English or British sovereign sometimes appears for the first time after their accession to the throne. Queen Victoria was thus first seen by her subjects.
The Proclamation Gallery is also where the Accession Council by tradition meets after the death of a reigning monarch to determine the new monarch, and to take their oath.
