Fulton Creek (North Saskatchewan River)
Fulton Creek Is a minor tributary which flows into the North Saskatchewan River. It is currently defined as a lost creek, as its output of water is very minimal and is culverted most of its way. Fulton creek originates in rural Edmonton and just before crossing Whitemud drive, is culverted.
Origination
Fulton Creek originates in the far southeastern section of rural Edmonton, it is fed by Fulton marsh, which is a constructed wetland created after the original was drained, there was also a western stream- tributary that once flowed into the creek but has now completely disappeared. Fulton marsh is now a protected wetland that conserves the native flora and fauna in the area. Fulton creek, after discharging from the Marsh is quickly culverted underneath Whitemud drive and only emerges in various different sections. the longest section that the creek flows through undisturbed, is near the Capilano freeway for three fourths of a kilometre.
Water course
Fulton Creek's course takes it all the way to the North Saskatchewan River. However, there are many complications to its course. One reason is because it is culverted most of its way, in order for the city of Edmonton to build neighbourhoods in the surrounding area. Due to being culverted, the creeks discharge into the river is very minimal and tends to dry up in the summer. Spring melt can cause the creek to overflow, allowing melt water to access the river. Its culverts owe to the creek's demise, and not being able to flow correctly makes it a lost creek.
Topography
The area surrounding the Fulton marsh is generally flat with very minimal sloping. In areas where the creek emerge, a light depression beings to form. Towards the River, the creek slopes into a sharp and deep ravine.
