Major General G G Dwivedi (Sena Medal, Vishisht Seva Medal & bar) is an Indian Army career officer, academic, journalist, author and social worker. He retired in 2009 from the Indian Army (Infantry) as Assistant Chief Integrated Defense Staff after 38 years.[1]
Early life and education
He is the grandson of eminent physician Rai Sahib[2] Dr. Dewan Chand Dwivedi,[3] and son of Sh. O P Dwivedi, Indian National Army Veteran, senior executive in corporate and social activist.[4] He had his schooling in Sainik School, Amaravathinagar.[5] Later he joined to the National Defence Academy Khadakwasla. He holds M Sc in Defence Studies and dual M Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies from Madras University and Ph. D in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi.[6]
Military career
Major General Dwivedi, SM, VSM & BAR retired as Assistant Chief Integrated Defence Staff in 2009, after 38 years of distinguished service in the army (infantry). A veteran of Bangladesh War, he carriers vast experience by virtue of numerous operational, staff and instructional assignments, (commanded battalion in Siachen, Brigade in Kashmir Valley, and Division in the North East). He has made significant contribution in the formulation of numerous strategic policy papers and doctrines. .[7] [8][9][10]

Academic career
In his academic career Major General Dwivedi has achieved distinction recognition both at national and global levels.He holds M Sc in Defence Studies and dual M Phil in Defence and Strategic Studies from Madras University and Ph. D in International Relations from Jawaharlal Nehru University (JNU) New Delhi. Besides interpretership in Chinese from the School of foreign Languages, he obtained 'Art & Practice of leadership Development' from Harvard Kennedy School and 'Leadership in Public Life from Kansas Leadership Center, USA'. An alumnus of National Defence College, Prof Dwivedi has been on the faculty of Indian Military Academy Dehradun and Defence Staff College Wellington, besides Defence Attache in China, Mongolia and North Korea. He is a Visiting Faculty at foreign Services Institute Delhi, Lal Bahadur Shastri National Academy of Administration. Mussoorie, Management Development Institute Gurgaon, Lal Bahadur Institute of Management Delhi, Punjab University (PU) Chandigarh and UGC HRD Centers, GNDU JNU, JMI and PU. Member, of renowned think tanks and, he regularly guest speaks at premier 'Centers of Excellence' both in India and abroad, frequently appears on National TV as a panellist. Currently, Major General Dwivedi is Professor and Chairperson at Aligarh Muslim University, where he is instrumental in setting up new Faculty of International Studies.[11]
Published works
Dwivedi has authored books on military history and edited number of books on leadership and published over 40 articles including book chapters on geostrategy, international relations and leadership in leading professional journals and national dailies. Additinoally, Dwivedi has contributed over fifty shorts pieces in the leading natural dailies, based on his personal experience.[12]

Many of his articles have been published in various news papers. His notable articles includes "Battle for supremacy",[16] "Nothing is ever lasting",[17] "A tale of two cities",[17] "Go in for caliberated responses",[18] "Having car-free roads on Sundays",[19] "Two shades of autumn",[20] "‘Can’t bury the future",[7] "Passing on", and [21] "India’s National Security: Annual Review 2009"[22] He presented a keynote conference address on "Utilizing Military Veterans to add value to developmental initiatives in Rural and Semi-Urban Areas" on May 6, 2014 at Observer Research Foundation.[23] The new article published on 3rd Aug 2015 The Prez who wanted to be a billionaire[24]
His articles have also published in Wikileaks titled "Indian Article Discusses China's Foreign Policy To Oppose Rival Powers in Asia" Article by G. G. Dwivedi, former Assistant Chief of Integrated Defence Staff: "Checkmating the Dragon's Growing Influence" - Political and Defence Weekly.[25][26] He has delivered lectures at Boston University.[27][28] and presented paper at International Journal of Arts & Sciences (IJAS) held at Harvard Medical School in May 2015.[29]
He made valuable contribution in the operational planning for 2010 Commonwealth Games, and also head of Spectator Services of 2010 Commonwealth Games in India.[30][31] He is founder chairman of school of Leadership & strategy. he is actively engaged in social initiative and veteran affairs.[32]
