Dr. G. Parameshwara (born 6 August 1958) is the current Home Minister of Karnataka and also the current president of the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee since October 2010.[1]
Early life and education
Dr. G. Parameshwara was born as 3rd child of Ex-(Member of Legislative Council) Shikshana Bhishma Dr. H M Gangadharaiah and Smt. Gangamalamma on 6 August 1953 in Gollahalli, Tumkur. He grew up in the peaceful village of Gollahalli (now Siddharthanagar) with his family.
His primary education was at Gollahalii and in Heggere, Tumkur. He would walk 4 km every day to school. He did his high school education from Siddhartha School at Golahalli, which was established by his father. He joined government PU College in Tumkur and later got a seat in B.Sc. Agricultural science, M.Sc.Agriculture in University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore, Bangalore. Did his Doctor of Phylosophy in Australia.
He followed his father’s footsteps and began his social work at a very early age by joining the National Cadet Corps (India). He was an excellent athlete and would participate in all the athletic and inter college events representing University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (Gandhi Krushi Vignana Kendra) and win medals every time. His University meet record in 100 meters hurdle is still unbroken.
After completing the B.Sc. In Agricultural science, he did his masters from University of Agricultural Sciences, Bangalore (Gandhi Krushi Vignana Kendra). He was recognized by the Government of Karnataka and was provided with Scholarship for his higher studies in Australia for his Doctor of Philosophy in Plant physiology from Waite Agricultural Research Institute, University of Adelaide, Adelaide.
As the thought goes “earn while you learn” Dr. G. Parameshwara never asked money from his father for his education, he earned his living and completed his education.[2]
Political career
In 1993, Parmeshwar served as Minister for Sericulture and from 1998 to 2004 served as Minister of Higher Education. He has been elected to the Assembly four times. In 1989, 1999, and 2004 he represented Madhugiri; in 2008 he represented Koratagere. He was appointed as the President of Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee replacing R. V. Deshapande.[3]
