Gabriel Mascaro (born September 24, 1983) is a Brazilian visual artist and film director.

Biography

Gabriel Mascaro is a filmmaker and visual artist from Recife, Brazil. His documentary Housemaids (Portuguese: Doméstica) premiered in competition at IDFA 2012 (Amsterdam). His first feature film, August Winds (Portuguese: Ventos de Agosto), premiered in competition at Locarno in 2014 and was awarded with a special mention. The film has won numerous other awards and received much critical acclaim. His previous documentaries and video installations have been screened at important film festivals and artistic events including Rotterdam (IFFR), Oberhausen, Clermont-Ferrand, BFI London, the Guggenheim, Barcelona Museum of Contemporary Art, MoMA Documentary Fortnight, and the São Paulo Art Biennial.

Neon Bull (Portuguese: Boi Neon), Mascaro's second feature film, premiered at the 2015 Venice International Film Festival, where it won the Special Jury Prize in the Horizons (Orizzonti) section. The film subsequently received an honorable mention from the Platform jury[1] at the Toronto International Film Festival.
