Gaighat (Vidhan Sabha constituency) (Hindi: गायघाट विधान सभा निर्वाचन क्षेत्र) (earlier called Gaighatti) is an assembly constituency in Muzaffarpur district in the Indian state of Bihar.

Overview

As per Delimitation of Parliamentary and Assembly constituencies Order, 2008, No. 88 Gaighat (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is composed of the following: Gaighat and Bandra community development blocks; Katra, Sonpur, Berai South, Dhanaur, Madhepura and Shivdaspur gram panchayats of Katra CD Block.[1]

Gaighat (Vidhan Sabha constituency) is part of No. 15 Muzaffarpur (Lok Sabha constituency).[1]

Election results

1977-2010

In the 2010 state assembly elections, Veena Devi of BJP won the Gaighat assembly seat defeating her nearest rival Maheshwar Prasad Yadav of RJD.[2] Contests in most years were multi cornered but only winners and runners are being mentioned. Maheshwar Prasad Yadav of RJD defeated Ashok Kumar Singh of JD(U) in October 2005 and February 2005. Veerendra Kumar Singh of JD(U) defeated Devendra Prasad Yadav of RJD in 2000. Maheshwar Prasad Yadav of JD defeated Anand Mohan of BPP in 1995. Maheswar Prasad Yadav, Independent, defeated Virendra Prasad Singh of Congress in 1990. Virendra Kumar Singh of Congress defeated Maheswar Prasad of LD in 1985. Jitendra Prasad Singh of BJP defeated Vinodanand Singh of Janata Party (Secular – Charan Singh) in 1980. Vinodanand Singh of JP defeated Jitendra Prasad Singh, Independent, in 1977.[3]
