Gavin David Franklin (born 9 January 1978) is a former English cricketer. Franklin was a right-handed batsman who bowled right-arm off break, who could also when needed field as a wicket-keeper. He was born in Wolverhampton, Staffordshire and educated at Malvern College.[1]

Franklin made his debut for Staffordshire in the 1997 Minor Counties Championship, making two appearances that season against Hertfordshire and Northumberland.[2] The following season, he played in the MCCA Knockout Trophy for the Warwickshire Cricket Board, also appearing for the team in the 1999 competition.[3] 1998 saw Franklin attend Durham University, where he played for the University cricket team.[1] Playing for the university team allowed Franklin to make his only first-class appearance representing British Universities against the touring Zimbabweans.[4] He batted once in the match, scoring 12 runs before being dismissed by Dirk Viljoen.

He also bowled 10 wicket-less overs.[5] Following on from his studies at Durham University, Franklin rejoined Staffordshire for the 2002 season, with him also playing in the following season for the county.[2][3] He did though make his List A debut during his second stint, against the Hampshire Cricket Board in the 2nd round of the 2003 Cheltenham & Gloucester Trophy which was held in 2002. He marked his debut by scoring 63 runs from 111 balls, with his sedate innings being ended by Richard Dibden.[6] He played a further List A match in the 3rd round which came the following year against Surrey.[7] He scored 39 runs from 81 balls in Staffordshires' reply, before being dismissed by James Ormond, in a match that Staffordshire lost narrowly by 9 runs.[8]
