Gayle Smith is an American public administrator and the current administrator of the United States Agency for International Development.
Smith was previously the special assistant to the President of the United States and Senior Director for Development and Democracy at the U.S. National Security Council.[1]
On April 30, 2015, President Obama announced his nomination of Smith to be the new administrator for the United States Agency for International Development (USAID), to succeed Dr. Rajiv Shah, who resigned the post in February 2015.[2] There was some opposition to her appointment.[3][4] The Senate delayed confirmation.[5] Smith was later confirmed on November 30, 2015.[6][7]

- 1991 World Hunger Year Award
- 1999 U.S. National Security Council’s Samuel Nelson Drew Award for Distinguished Contribution in Pursuit of Global Peace.
