Geoffrey Frank Anson (8 October 1922 – 4 December 1977) was an English cricketer.[1] A right-handed batsman, he played ten first-class matches during the 1947 English cricket season for Cambridge University and Kent.[2] He also represented the Nigeria national cricket team.[3]
Biography
Born at Sevenoaks, Kent in 1922,[2] Geoffrey Anson was educated at Harrow, where he played cricket, and at the University of Cambridge.[4] It was at Cambridge where he made his first-class debut, playing against Essex.[5] Good performances against Yorkshire and Middlesex, against whom he scored 106, his highest first-class score,[2] led to him having his blue almost secure, but commitments with the Colonial Service meant that he missed the match against Oxford University.[4]
Later in the year he played seven County Championship matches for his native Kent, his last first-class match coming against Somerset in August.[5] In April 1949, he played a five-day match for Nigeria against Gold Coast in Lagos.[6] He returned to Kent to play for their second XI between 1957 and 1959[3] and died in Hastings in 1977.[2]
