George Byng, 6th Viscount Torrington

Dutch Military Order of William

George Byng, 6th Viscount Torrington (1768–1831) served as a Vice-Admiral in the Royal Navy. King William III appointed the sixth Viscount to the Military Order of William following his command of HMS Cumberland, the ship that returned the King to the Netherlands from his exile in London.[1]

His son, the seventh Viscount, was a British diplomat, who served as Governor of Ceylon between 1847 and 1850.
