Giacomo Gianniotti (born June 19, 1989) is a Canadian, Italian actor. Gianniotti is best known for his roles on Reign and Murdoch Mysteries. He is currently playing a surgical intern, Dr. Andrew DeLuca on Grey's Anatomy.
Early life
Giacomo Gianniotti was born June 19, 1989, in Rome, Italy. He immigrated with his family at a young age and grew up in Toronto.[1] Gianniotti splits his time in the year between Toronto, Canada and Rome, Italy, working in stage, films and television, both Canadian and Italian.[2] He attended high school at Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts in Toronto and then graduated from Humber College's Theatre Program. He has also completed an actor's residency at Norman Jewison's Canadian Film Centre, in Toronto.[1]
Career
His first experience in film was a small role in a Giulio Base's feature film featuring Shelley Winters and Vittorio Gassman, shot in "Cinecittá" in Rome. He guest starred in an episode of the Italian television series Medicina Generale in 2010. He appeared in several television shows in 2013, including Beauty & the Beast, Time Tremors and Copper in which he starred in three episodes. Gianniotti played a recurring role as Lord Julien in the first season of Reign.[1] He played Leslie Garland for several episodes in Murdoch Mysteries starting in 2013. He starred as Freddy in Selfie, and later acted in The Secret Life of Marilyn Monroe. In 2015 he was cast as surgical resident Dr. Andrew deLuca for the last two episodes of the eleventh season of Grey's Anatomy, and is currently portraying the character in the next season. On January 8, 2016, he was promoted to series regular.[3][4] Gianniotti also appeared in Backpackers as Andrew.[1]
