Gideon King is an American businessman,[1] Jazz-rock and fusion musician.[2] He is best known for his role as the CEO of Loeb King Capital Management.[3][4] King is the founder of Gideon King & City Blog, a critically acclaimed act that has been compared to Steely Dan.[5][6]
Career
King worked as CEO, CIO, analyst and principal of Loeb King Capital Management between 1994 and 2015.[4][7] He was also a frequent guest on CNBC[8] and Bloomberg Television.[9][10] He was frequently praised for his shareholder activism.[11][12] In the wake of the 2008 economic downturn, Institutional Investor among others remarked on his strong track record and risk management in the midst of the financial crisis.[13][14] He now operates his own family office.[7]
Music
King is also known as a composer and guitar player.[15] He started to play at the age of 10 inspired by his highly musical family.[5] In 2015 he formed Gideon King & City Blog, a studio project inspired by John Scofield, Pat Metheny and Steely Dan.[16][17] Later that same year he wrote and released City Blog, the bands' critically acclaimed debut.[6][18] He has worked with jazz and pop musicians including, John Scofield, James Genus, Marc Broussard, Donny McCaslin, Carolyn Leonhart, Grace Weber and Elliot Skinner.[19][20][21]
The Huffington Post reviewed City Blog writing, "An aurally rich group filled with sophisticated musicality, their newest self-titled album is full of vibrant arrangements, edgy lyrics, and chilled-out vibes."[5] This was echoed by Music Crowns who raved that the record "oozes pure class."[19] Praise was not universal though, with Sputnikmusic saying, "there are a few tracks that should have been left off." The reviewer did go on to say, "despite this, Gideon King and City Blog’s self titled debut is jam packed with a little something for every music fan."[22]
