Gijs van Hoecke (born 12 November 1991) is a Belgian cyclist, riding for the Topsport Vlaanderen–Baloise team.[1]
Career
In 2011, when he was 19 years old, he was selected to participate at the Track Cycling World Championships, where he won the bronze medal in the Men's omnium. One year later, at the World Championships in Melbourne, he finished ninth in the same event and became Madison World Champion.
At the 2012 Summer Olympics, he competed in the Men's team pursuit for the Belgian national team.[2] Van Hoecke was sent home from these Olympic Games by the Belgian Olympic Committee because he got drunk after his competition was over.[3]
Gijs won the bronze medal at the Madison in the 2013 European Track Championships. During that year, he also won his first six-day race in Amsterdam.
In 2014, Gijs van Hoecke won the Internationale Wielertrofee Jong Maar Moedig road race.
