Gillian Martin is a Scottish politician. She is the SNP Member of the Scottish Parliament for Aberdeenshire East. She is a college lecturer.

Early life

Martin grew up in Newburgh.[1] She was educated at Ellon Academy.[2] Her parents were politically active.[3]

Lecturer

She has worked as a lecturer for 15 years in TV production.[4] She is a lecturer at North East Scotland College.[2]

Political activist

Martin became politically active during the Scottish independence referendum.[5] She helped found Women for Independence (WFI).[6] She is on the WFI executive, as the member for North East.[2]

She joined the SNP on 19 September 2014, on the morning after Scottish independence referendum.[4] She was emerged as a candidate for the Aberdeenshire East constituency of the Scottish Parliament in July 2015.[2] and was selected by local party members the following month.[7] She was elected to serve as MSP in the Scottish Parliament election, 2016.[8]

Personal life

Martin is married to a teacher and has two children.[4]
