"Girls, Interrupted" is the seventh episode of the Showtime original series Californication. It was written by Gina Fattore, directed by Tucker Gates and originally aired on Monday September 24, 2007.
Plot
Hank attempts to disprove Becca’s theory about the non-existence of happy endings by landing Karen a job and setting up an intimate dinner for the three of them. Charlie and Marcy decide to give a threesome a try with Charlie’s assistant, Dani. Mia finds herself in a compromising situation with her teacher.
Cultural references
- Becca compares the result of Hank and Karen's relationship to the Robert Frost poem "Nothing Gold Can Stay". Hank later responds to Becca's comparison by telling her "Stay gold, Ponyboy", a line from the novel The Outsiders, a story in which Robert Frost's poem also plays a small part.
- The name of the episode, "Girls, Interrupted" is a direct reference to both the 1999 film Girl, Interrupted as well as the Sex and the City episode "Boy, Interrupted" in which David Duchovny also appears.
- A home designed by award-winning California modernist Ray Kappe features prominently in one of the key scenes.
