Saint Giulia Salzano (13 October 1846 – 17 May 1929) was an Italian Roman Catholic professed religious and the founder of the Catechetical Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in 1905.
She was raised and educated by the Sisters of Charity in the Royal Orphanage of Saint Nicola La Strada until the age of fifteen. She was a school teacher and catechist in Casoria and a friend and co-worker with Saint Caterina Volpicelli. Salzano is noted for her personal devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary. She encouraged others in devotion to her and to the Sacred Heart of Jesus.[1]
On 17 October 2010, Pope Benedict XVI celebrated her canonization Mass in which he said" “May the example and intercession of Saint Giulia Salzano sustain the Church in her perennial task of announcing Christ and form authentic Christian consciences”.[2]
