Galina Peneva Ivanova, born June 28, 1973 in Ruse, Bulgaria), known professionally as Gloria (Bulgarian: Глория), is a Bulgarian singer, perhaps the most popular of her generation. She is often referred to as the "Prima of Bulgarian pop-folk music". Awarded with the titles "Singer of the year" in 1999, 2000, 2003 и 2004 and "Singer of the decade" in 2007.[1] Her best known songs are „Крепост“ („Fortress“), „Носталгия“ („Nostalgia“), „Феникс“ („Fenix“), „Ангел с дяволска душа“ („Angel with a Devil Soul“), „Ако бях се родила река“ („If I was born as a river“), „Илюзия“ („Illusion“), „Откраднат миг“ („Stolen moment“), „Любовен дъжд“ („Love rain“), „Не сме безгрешни“ („We are not sinless“), „Присъда“ („Sentence“), „Ако те няма“ („If you are not there“) and „Пясъчни кули“ („Sand towers“). Gloria is the only representative of the pop-folk genre with 4 independent concerts in Hall 1 of the prestigious National palace of culture in Sofia.[2][3]

Early life and highschool

Gloria was born in the family of Stefka Ivanova and Penko Ivanov. A very emotional and lively girl, she also preferred to play more with boys than girls. In an accident during second grade, she might have become disabled. The doctors from Ruse gave an emergency operation of her legs, but it failed. The expectation was that she would need to be in a wheelchair until the age of eighteen. Her mother, however, did not give up fighting this tragic accident. The same year, she met professor Shoilev, who performed a second operation in Sofia. Gloria was able to stand on her feet again. Until this day, she remains grateful to Professor Shoilev. Four years later, Gloria's parents divorced, leaving her and her brother Nikolai to live with their grandparents in the town of Dve Mogili. During that time, they completed their secondary education. Gloria herself finished the Technical High School in farming.

Music

Gloria has been a performer since 1992. Her debut album Щастието е Магия (The Happiness is Magic) was warmly welcomed by the audience, achieving sales of more than 100 000 copies.[4] Gloria is the first artist of the musical company Planeta Payner. За Добро или Зло (For Good or Evil), her second music album, topped the charts with 400 000 - 500 000 copies, achieving a golden status in Bulgaria.[5] On 20 April 2000 she produced her most successful title 12 Диаманта (12 Diamonds). The CD was certified as golden by The Bulgarian Association of Music Producers (BAMP).[6] But perhaps the biggest hits in her career came with the release of her ninth album Крепост (Fortress) in 2003. Songs that stood out are "Phoenix", "Labyrinth" and the title song, the album was named after - "Stronghold". Her twelfth studio album Благодаря was released in Bulgaria in March 2007 and it sold over 16 000 physical copies within the first week of release.

Gloria has been a jury in Music Idol and participated in the reality show Dancing Stars. She has duets with the artists Azis and Toni Dacheva.

In January 2015 Gloria and her team announced an official YouTube channel, where her fans can view all of her official videos and concerts, along with her videos on the YouTube channel of her record company Planeta Payner.

Among her most memorable moments in 2015 was the joint event on one stage in Monaco with the Israeli pop singer Ishtar [7] Another exciting event in her career was the recognition she received by the world-famous Spanish singer Julio Iglesias, who mentioned her name in an interview as one of the Bulgarian singers he admire the most.[8]

On her birthday (28 June) she surprised her fans with a new title - her album Пясъчни Кули (Sand Towers). The album topped the charts in Bulgaria for 6 following months.[9][10][11][12][13][14]
