Godwin Agro Products Limited is an Indian company into cold chain warehouse and logistics. Its first controlled atmosphere storage facility was started by a young entrepreneur and food technologist Akaash Jain at Village Jaula Khurd, Lalru (Chandigarh) in north India.[3] The storage was built with a capacity of 3000 MT,[4] comprising of 20 CA Chambers. It became operational in September 2011. This facility is currently leased to companies, traders and orchardist. The facility is located in a 7-acre complex where further expansion is being carried out.
Facilities
The controlled atmosphere cold storage is as per the technical guidelines of National Centre for Cold-chain Development[5] and approved by the National Horticulture Board under the Scheme for Development of Commercial Horticulture through Production and Post Harvest Management.[6] This CA storage facility has air conditioned packing halls, ethylene control, humidification of chambers, remote surveillance,[7] refrigerated vehicles and 24 hour operations.[8] The storage is done in plastic bins which store 300 kg of fresh produce. Some storage is done in ergonomically designed mezzanine floors. The existing storage has a 10000 square feet packing and grading hall for fruits and vegetables.
Expansion
The current controlled atmosphere storage is being expanded by another 2500 MT increasing the total capacity to 5500 MT with 32 chambers which will be commissioned by March 2016. The expansion will include pre-cooling chambers and an integrated pack house for vegetables. After the expansion Godwin Agro will be one of the largest single location multiple commodity controlled atmosphere cold storage in India.
Consultancy and R&D
The consultancy division provides advisory services for setup of new controlled atmosphere cold stores, modification of existing cold stores and storage methods for fresh produce.[9] The research division has tested many Indian fruits and vegetables including apples [10] in controlled atmosphere conditions to check the physiological changes, sensory qualities and effect on shelf life and utilized these results to store products on a commercial scale.
