Goldballs (Fabio Medina) is a fictional character appearing in American comic books published by Marvel Comics.
Fictional character biography
Fabio Medina is a mutant whose powers first appeared when he was the victim of an attempted robbery on the streets of San Diego. After manifesting his abilities, the bouncing balls emanating from his body frighten onlookers, and he is taken into custody by the San Diego Police Department. However, Cyclops and his group of X-Men arrive just in time to rescue him. A squad of different-sized Sentinels attack the new mutant and Cyclops's team, who managed to destroy the Sentinels. Fabio is then invited to join the X-Men when they departed San Diego. Although Fabio is reluctant, he decides to follow them. Fabio then joins the X-Men during their visit to Eva Bell's home and the encounter with the Avengers, before being dragged into limbo during Dormammu's attempt to kill them. In the aftermath, Fabio demands to be taken home, where his family questions his disappearance and is befuddled at his claims of being a mutant.
When S.H.I.E.L.D. agent Alison Blaire (Dazzler) arrives and questions him about Cyclops's location, Fabio loses control of his powers. He is taken into S.H.I.E.L.D. custody but is again rescued by Cyclops' team and rejoins them. He later assists in the battle against the Blockbuster Sentinel by concentrating the emission of his gold balls to topple them. He then assumes the mutant nickname "Goldballs".
After many adventures under the guidance of Illyana Rasputin and Shadowcat, Goldballs and his teammates express uncertainty about continuing as students anymore.[1]
Fabio next appears in All New All Different Avengers where he is seen attending the same high school as Miles Morales, aka "Spider-Man".
Powers and abilities
Fabio's superpower is the ability to project solid gold balls of different sizes from any part of his body by shouting "Goldballs!" The balls are made of an unknown solid substance and are able to bounce, emitting a "poink" sound when they hit something. These balls are also incredibly durable and fly at high speeds when shot. Fabio can summon an infinite number of them to attack enemies. If he concentrates, he can project them in a straight line or direct them to a specific area. When Fabio is calm, he can dismiss the gold balls, causing them to vanish rather than be reabsorbed into his body as they normally do.
Alternate versions
In the Earth-TRN533 reality, Fabio Medina's life mirrors that of his mainstream counterpart up until the point Professor X's last will and testament revealed the existence of the omega-level mutant Matthew Malloy. Goldballs was present with the rest of the other students when Storm and Beast arrived at their school to let Cyclops know that he needed to be at the reading of Professor X's will. All of the teachers from the New Charles Xavier School decided to go via Magik's teleportation leaving Fabio and the others behind. With nothing else to do, the Stepford Cuckoos set up a training session in the Danger Room for the others against holographic versions of the Avengers. Fabio used his abilities on Captain America while the others engaged the rest of them. But the fight was cut short due to fellow teammate Triage's dislike of who they were fighting. His powers and abilities were seemingly the same of his Earth-616 counterpart.
