Gona Gannareddy

Gona Gannareddy (1262-1296AD), [1] sometimes spelled Gonaganna Reddy, was a ruler of the Vaddemani Kingdom during Kakatiya dynasty in the Deccan Plateau and one of the few ruling queen Rani Rudrama Devi in Indian history. A 400 page Kakatiya Charithrathmaka Navala, history book was written by Adavi Baapiraju in 1946.

Early life

After the death of Ganapthi deva, Rudrama Devi became the queen of the Kakatiya. All the sub kings (samatharaja) kings decided to capture queen. At this time Gona Gannareddy went under cover lived in forest, started cleaning up enemies who are inside the kingdom and attackers from outside as they all have to come the forest. He was alwayed protected safety of Kakatiya Kingdom, stood backbone to Rudhrama Devi. Gona Gannareddy played a vital role during King Pratapa Rudra ruling. He conquered Raichur and constructed a fort. His supported queen Rudrama Devi in every battle. Some named him as thief (until Rudram Devi announced him as the supporter of Kakatiyas).

One of his biggest fight against Lakkubhai with 100,000 army in the Nallamalla forest, Gonnareddy reached them as devotees of Lord Siva and attacked the army. Later captured Lakkubhai Reddy and handed over to Rudhrama Devi.

With the help of Gannareddy, Rudhrammadevi won another war battle against 800,000 army of Mahadevudu. This battle helped Rudhrama Devi a powerful female warrior and ruler.

Rule

Gona Gannareddy was great warrior, he won every battle he went. He is also great ruler. His courage and honesty towards Kakatiyas gave him a highest place in the Indian history.

Film maker Gunasekhar made a Telugu language Gona Gannareddy vital role is glorified once again to the Telugu community his hard work, movie on the life of Rudrama Devi the warrior queen.[2]
