Gopal Bhargava (born 1 July 1952) is a Minister of Co-operative, Social Justice, Panchayat and Rural Development in Madhya Pradesh, government, India. He belongs to the Bharatiya Janata Party and is an eight-time Member of Legislative Assembly, representing Rehli since 1984.
Early life and education
Bhargava was born in a Garhakota Brahmin family. His education is B.Sc., MA in Political Science) and LLB (Law) from Dr. H.S. Gour University, Sagar.
Early political career
His early political career can be defined as up to the point of his first election to the Nagar Palika Garhakota. He was the President of students union at Government Boys Higher Secondary School Garhakota|Students Union]] in 1965. In 1984-85, he participated in youth movement for a college building and was imprisoned in Sagar Jail for some time.
He was first elected as president to the Nagar Palika Garhakota in 1980 and then as a Member of Legislative Assembly from Rehli in 1984. In 2003, Bhargava was chosen to become the cabinet minister in Government of Madhya Pradesh led by Uma Bharti. He was also made the President of MP Agro Development Corporation, President of MP Agriculture Board, President of State warehousing Corporation, President of MP state civil supplies corporation. president of Apex bank MP any many other department.
In 2008 he took oath as cabinet minister of Panchayat & Rural Development, Social Justice in government of led by Shivraj Singh Chauhan
In 2013 eighth time, Gopal Bhargava retained the Rehli Vidhan Sabha seat by over 52,000 votes without made any individual campaign during election with it, led the BJP to a third consecutive victory with government in the state. On 12 December 2013, he was sworn in for his third consecutive term as cabinet minister (most senior, popular & highly decorated, reputed minister, serving same as deputy chief minister of state stand next to Shivraj Singh Chauhan) and again took charge of Panchayat & Rural Development, Social Justice & Co-operative Society
He is very fond of great deal in services with public interest in various field on personal expenses such as medical treatment, accommodation at his bungalow for people who visited bhopal for any reason belongs to his constituency, he attend all glad & sorrow occasion in his constituency, also provide free funeral facility for people belonging to poor family, convening feast every day for poor & hungry peoples & also organise marriage ceremony for every category twice in a year, on this achievement he was registered in Guinness Book of World Records & locally called as "SHAADI BABA". Arrange various skill exam for talented students & whenever he dwell at home he intract with people from evening to morning continuously & resolve their problem instantly. Deal in various development works all over state. He is master of great memory power I.e. once he meets someone anywhere else he will call that person with his/her name & meet him personally without any appointment whenever he meets them again. All these things make him one of the most popular politician in Madhya Pradesh. There are also some allegations of financial irregularities on him such as asking illegal money from public officials through extortion under different schemes like MGNREGA, Indira Awas Yojana, Mid day meal scheme and other rural development under his ministry.He was also accused of harassing public officials and threatening them to downgrade their Annual Confidential report if they doesn't comply by their orders including some IAS and Senior State civil services officer.
Personal life
Bhargava has been married to Rekha Bhargava since 1981. They have one son and three daughters.
