Gorton Heritage Trail

Gorton Heritage Trail[1] is located approximately 3 miles from the centre of Manchester , England. It is situated on the banks of Gore Brook. It runs for approximately three quarters of a mile through the Gore Brook Valley Conservation Area, from Sunny Brow Park to Gorton Lower Reservoir.

The trail links up several areas that are rich in plants, trees, wildlife and history. It includes Sunny Brow Park, Lower Meadow wildflower meadow, Brookfield Church and 'dissenters graveyard', a butterfly garden, Foxfold, and Tanyard Brow.

Origins of the Trail

Gorton Heritage Trail Action Group (GHTAG)[2] was founded in 1997 by local residents who were inspired to protect, enhance and maintain the area, and bring attention to its sites.

Places of interest

Sunny Brow Park

This park contains a children's playground.

Lower Meadow

A wildflower meadow bordered by trees.

Butterfly Garden

The trail crosses Hyde Road (A57) and enters an area planted specifically with butterflys in mind.

Foxfold

The 'salt road' crosses the brook runs past the 'Vale Cottage' pub and then through foxfold, a wilder section of the trail!

Tanyard Brow

Finally the trail crosses Tanyard Brow and connects up to Gorton Lower Reservoir.
