The Government Engineering College, Nilokheri (Hindi: राजकीय अभियांत्रिकी महाविद्यालय, निलोखेड़ी ) (abbreviated GECN)is a public government engineering institution located in Nilokheri. It is among the two engineering college run by the government in Haryana, the other being Government Engineering College, Sirsa.

History

The concept of the diploma institute at Nilokheri as an engineering college was first introduced in year 2000.[1] The college building was previously used by the students of Govt. Polytechnic Nilokheri was granted the status of Engineering college in 2016. The college was inaugurated by Manohar Lal Khattar, who was the Chief Minister of Haryana. It was established to facilitate and promote studies and research in emerging areas of Engineering education with focus on new frontiers of technology and to achieve excellence in the connected fields.

Recognition

GECN is affiliated with Kurukshetra University, in Kurukshetra. It is accredited by the All India Council for Technical Education, a division of the state Ministry of Human Resource Development. It was also accredited by NBA.

Admissions

B.Tech

Students seeking admissions to B.Tech courses appear for the JEE MAIN exam conducted by CBSE every year in April. Students who qualify this exam exercise their choices at the centralised online state counselling conducted by HSCS(Haryana State Counseling Society) in June. With only a few seats available, only those securing a good rank can expect to be admitted to the institute. Admission into the first year for the 75% seats of the B.Tech program can only be obtained through this route. Rest 25% seats are filled up at the institute level purely on the basis of merit in AIEEE.

Students who have a three year diploma from a recognised polytechnic in the state can directly get admission to the second year of the B.Tech program through the LEET Exam. LEET is an online exam organised by the HSCS, usually held in June. Only a limited number of seats are filled through this route.

Campus

A new building has been constructed for the students perusing diploma. This new building was started its academics for the first year students in the session 2014-15. Its construction started in 2009 and got completed in 2013. The Guru BrahmaNand Ji Govt. Polytechnic Nilokheri (GBNGPN) formerly known as the Govt. Polytechnic Nilokheri (GPN)'s classes of Diploma Ist year were shifted out en-block to mark the beginning of GEC Nilokheri at its campus in new building. The Guru BrahmaNand Ji Govt. Polytechnic Nilokheri (GBNGPN) is thus the mother institution of GEC Nilokheri.


Location

The college is situated in Nilokheri, district Karnal, Haryana. It is about 143 km. from Delhi on Delhi-Chandighar National Highway (NH-1). It is at a distance of about 140 km. from Chandigarh. It is well connected by road and Railway. One can see the massive building structure of the college while passing through National Highway 1 flyover.
