The Graduate School of Humanities and Social Sciences (abbreviated to GSHSS) is a part of the Faculty of Arts at the University of Melbourne.

The School is located in the heritage listed Old Arts Building, constructed in 1919–1924 and is situated in the oldest precinct on the university campus.[1] The School’s facilities were refurbished in early 2010, the building's first major construction project in 50 years.

In Times Higher Education world rankings, the University of Melbourne is ranked 19 in the Social Sciences[2] and 17 in the Arts and Humanities.[3]

The School now administers 16 Masters by coursework programs in the humanities and social sciences disciplines.

The School was officially launched on September 2, 2009 by special guest and keynote speaker, Dr Helene Szoke, who completed graduate study with the Faculty of Arts and is now Chief Conciliator/CEO of the Victorian Equal Opportunity and Human Rights Commission.[4]
