Granville Bates (January 7, 1882 – July 8,1940) was an American character actor and bit player, appearing in over ninety films.

Bates was born in Chicago. His first film appearances come in 1917. He appeared on Broadway in the 1920s, and appears in a number of 1930s classic films, although sometimes uncredited. Just coming into notice for his character roles such as in My Favorite Wife, where he played an irascible judge, Bates died of a heart attack in 1940.
