Gus Stevens Seafood Restaurant & Buccaneer Lounge

Gus Stevens Seafood Restaurant & Buccaneer Lounge was a restaurant and supper club in Biloxi, Mississippi. It was famous in the 1950s and 1960s. Jayne Mansfield died in a car crash while being driven from the club. The establishment closed in 1975. The building was empty for several years.In 2000 the location was slated to become a Surf Style store.[1]

The restaurant building was constructed with a Moroccan architecture style turret.[2] It was home to Gus Stevens' Seafood Restaurant and Buccaneer Supper Club, and hosted Andy Griffith,[2] Mel Torme, Rudy Vallee and Jerry Lee Lewis.[2] The building was demolished in 2000 to make way for a Surf Style retail store.[3]

Jayne Mansfield was killed in an accident while being driven to New Orleans after a performance at the club.[4]

History

Stevens came to the Gulf Coast in 1946.[5] He was a Greek-American.
