Guy Wignall Pelly[1][2] is a close friend of Prince William and Prince Harry and is godfather to Prince William and Kate Middleton's child Prince George. Pelly is considered one of London's most successful young entrepreneurs and has recently opened the new nightclub Tonteira in Chelsea, London.

Early Life/Family Background

The third son of car saleroom owner [3] John Gurney Pelly (1938-2015),[4] a descendant of the Pelly baronets and, through his mother (née Tate), a member of the Tate & Lyle sugar dynasty,[1][3] by his wife Vanda Joan (née Allfrey, a scion of the Allfrey family of Wokefield Park[5]), Guy Pelly grew up in Kent, South East England then later moved to the countryside of Gloucestershire, South West England. He is a distant relative to the Earl of Pembroke.[6][7]

Personal life

Guy Pelly is most known for being a close friend to Prince William and Prince Harry. Guy and the Princes grew up together in Gloucestershire, England and have remained close friends.[6] Pelly has been pegged by British Tabloids as a "party animal" and ultimately a bad influence on both William and Harry.[8] He burst into public view when he was accused of introducing Prince Harry to marijuana in 2002 (of which he was later considered to be innocent).[3] It was then that Guy Pelly became somewhat of a public figure.[6] Pelly has recently been involved in many of the princes big life events. He most recently threw Prince William's stag party prior to his 2011 royal wedding to Kate Middleton.[9]

Career

Guy Pelly graduated from Newcastle University with a land management degree. He worked as a bar tender and manager throughout his college years and eventually met Piers Adam who offered him a stake/marketing job at Mahiki, a London nightclub.[8] This gave Pelly a good reputation and identified him as an important figure in the London nightclub life,[6] which then allowed him to open up and own night spots of his own such as Public, Whisky Mist, and Tonteria.[8]

Tonteira

Tonteira is a bijou club in Sloane Square in Chelsea, London and is co- owned by Guy Pelly and Marc Burton. Pelly and Burton first met working at the nightclub Mahiki, which established them as two of London's most successful young entrepreneurs. After Mahiki, Pelly and Burton opened their own club, Whisky Mist, then later saw an opportunity to do something new and different by opening Tonteira. Tonteira is unique in that drinks are served in "las calacas" (skulls) and are delivered by waiters that are dressed in costumes and demonstrating authentic Mexican dance. Another unique aspect that makes Tonteira stand out amongst other nightclubs is that a toy train drops off tequila shots to customers lounging in hammocks. Pelly and Burton hope that club Tonteira will have a new and different edge on London nightlife.[10]
