Hồ Ngọc Hà (born 25 November 1984)[1][2] is a Vietnamese model, pop singer, actress and entertainer. She became famous when she won first prize in the supermodel contest of Vietnam in 2003 and 2004.

Biography

Ha was born in An Cựu, Huế then lived in Quảng Bình.[3] Her paternal grandfather was French.[3] She studied piano at the Military College of Arts. She is now living in Ho Chi Minh City.

Modeling career

After three years in Ha Noi, she won third prize at the Viet Nam Model Award Open in 1999, cementing her place in the modeling world.

Foray into music and acting

Later she would participate in Beautiful Song, which resulted in her performing on an album by Quoc Bao. She went on to release her first album, 24 giờ 7 ngày. It received very little promotion, but received a boost when photos of her in "nude art" leaked online.

After releasing her second album, Và em đã yêu, Ha began an acting career, acting in films Hoa Co May and two television shows, Chien Dich Trai Tim Ben Phai and 390 Yeu.

Before leaving for her US tour, Ha joined other artists for an album titled To Speak For England. The album was released on December 15, 2006 in Vietnam by The Music Faces and Galaxy and in the US on iTunes on December 19, 2006 by The Music Faces. During this time, Ha along with singer Duc Tuan also released a special album titled Illusion, which consists of classic love songs of famous Vietnamese composers. Her third album, Muốn nói với anh, was released in 2006.

She released her fourth album Khi ta yêu nhau in 2007. However, the album was not highly publicized, and none of the singles gained popularity. After the release of the album, it was announced that she and her boyfriend of several years had split, which was the source of much controversy. Ha stated that though they loved hard, she felt no regrets.

2009 saw her first release since the split, an EP titled The First Single. It was a top seller, and received positive reviews from critics and listeners. The main track, "Xin hãy thứ tha", featured a duet with female Vietnamese rapper Suboi. The EP also featured an English version of the track titled "My Apology", which she performed at Asia Song Festival in Korea.

During this time, she became the brand ambassador to Sunsilk in Vietnam. To promote the brand and simultaneously promote The First Single, she joined the company in a trans-Vietnam tour titled And I Fell in Love in September 2009. Fans who wanted to get tickets to the concert were able to exchange bottles of Sunsilk at the center. The tour took place from September 27, 2009 in Ho Chi Minh City and ended on October 10, 2009. It featured artists such as Dam Vinh Hung, Dan Truong, Phan Dinh Tung Quang Vinh, Pham Anh Khoa, Cao Thai Son, Lam Truong and Nguyen Vu . "And I Fell in Love" concert in Ho Chi Minh City was televised live on Channel HTV7 and on the official website of Sunsilk.

In 2010, after taking a break following the birth of her son, she released her fifth album, "Tìm lại giấc mơ" which she had recorded while pregnant. Ha herself wrote a song from the album titled "Thêm một lần vỡ tan". But not long after, the community discovered the song had many similarities with "Red Blooded Woman" by Kylie Minogue . Speaking about this Ho Ngoc Ha said that it was not a case of plagiarism and that they are two completely different songs. To promote the album, Ha once again teamed up with Sunsilk for a mini tour titled "Find a Dream" with a lineup similar to the earlier one, but with two extra performers: Ha Anh Tuan and V-Music group.

Ha and V-Music group then worked together on an album called "Happy Days", released in August, 2010 in Vietnam and on August 2, 2010 on iTunes. The album was also sponsored by the company Nikkon.

By mid 2011, Ha had released the song "Sẽ mãi bên nhau -Invincible-" which achieved success on every music chart and was the title song to the follow-up album released in late 2011. "Live Concert 2011 Ho Ngoc Ha" took place on December 15 at Lan Anh Club - Ho Chi Minh City.

In 2012 she became a coach on The Voice of Vietnam for its first season. Her final contestant, Đinh Hương, finished runner-up. Later in that year and went on to judge in "Got to Dance" .

2013 saw the release of the single "Hãy thứ tha cho em" which earned her the award for Single of the Year at the Green Wave Awards.. In 2014, Ha became a judge in the first season of The X Factor Vietnam. She mentored the "Girls" category, and her last contestant Giang Hồng Ngọc was the winner of that season. She was also a judge for The Remix in Vietnam. On April 2016 it was announced that Ha will become a judge in The Face Vietnam, which focusing on the model training.

Personal life

On 20 April 2010, Hà confirmed in an interview that she was pregnant.[4] The father, Nguyễn Quốc Cường, more commonly known as "Cường dollar"is said to be one of the richest men in Vietnam, though she prefers to keep quiet about their relationship. "I never wanted to talk to the press about Cường. If my lover was not Cường, there would have never been this kind of manhunt. But this is normal curiosity, and nobody knows the truth better than me. I've got a stable career and at the age of 26, I have the right enter a new chapter of my life." she has stated.[5] She has also stated that the two have no plans for marriage. On 21 June 2010, Hồ Ngọc Hà gave birth to a baby boy, named Nguyễn Quốc Hưng, via caesarean section.[6]

It was later revealed that she had been married at the age of 17 to a man named Pham Quang Hung.[7]

In mid 2015, it was first revealed by an anonymous Facebook account called Thánh Cô Cô Bóc that Hà was romantically involved with Chu Đăng Khoa, a wealthy businessman who was (and still is, legally, as of February 2016) married with 3 kids. In Feb 2016, Chu Đăng Khoa has publicly apologized for having an affair with her.[8]
