Hamish Kyle Bennett (born 22 February 1987 in Timaru) is an international cricketer who has played Test and One Day International (ODI) cricket for New Zealand. He also plays for Canterbury in the New Zealand domestic competitions. Earlier in his career he represented New Zealand in the 2006 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup in Sri Lanka. He is a right-arm medium-fast bowler who bats left handed in the lower order.[1]
International career
He made his first ODI appearance against Bangladesh in October 2010, where he was New Zealand's best performing bowler, taking three wickets in a match Bangladesh went on to win.[2] The following month he made his Test debut in a drawn match against India. After bowling fifteen wicketless overs in the first innings,[3] he was unable to bowl in the second innings because of an injury.[4]
Bennett was included in to the New Zealand squad for 2011 ICC Cricket World Cup held in Indian subcontinent. He took 4 wickets against Kenya in Chennai where he adjudged man of the match award. But then he lack the pace and wicket taking ability and economy went high in each match he played in the World Cup. New Zealand lost another World Cup at the semi-final stage, where this time to Sri Lanka.
Bennett returned to the ODI team on 25 January 2014 to play the third one-day match between New Zealand and India, after being sidelined for two years due to a serious back injury.[5]
