The handball tournaments at the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro will be held from 6 to 21 August at the Future Arena in the Barra Olympic Park.[1]

Two sets of medals will be awarded in the following events:

Each National Olympic Committee may enter up to one men's and one women's team in the handball tournaments.[2]

The competition consists of two stages; a group stage followed by a knockout stage.
