Hannibal Tabu
Hannibal Tabu (born January 20, 1973) is a writer of comic books, science fiction and criticism based in the United States. He is best known for The Buy Pile, his long-running comic book review column at Comic Book Resources.
Career
Before working in comics, Tabu worked as a journalist, serving as for six years as editor-in-chief of the Los Angeles Herald-Dispatch after a freelance career writing for MTV, Black Enterprise, Vibe, The Los Angeles Wave Newspaper, The Source, Rap Pages, The Los Angeles Sentinel and America Online.
Tabu has written a number of comic books and prose novellas including the Waso stories for Stranger Comics, Artifacts #35 for Top Cow/Image Comics, New Money #1 for Canon Comics and Watson and Holmes#9 for New Paradigm Studios. Tabu's first novel The Crown: Ascension was published by Merilene Murphy's boutique publishing firm Telepoetics, Inc. before he republished it under his Komplicated banner alongside the sequel, Faraway.
Tabu's poetry has been published in journals including The Drumming Between Us and (sic) Vice Verse, as well as in anthologies Drumvoices Revue from Southern Illinois University, MultiVerse: A Collection of Superhero Poetry and Voices from Leimert Park. He self-published two chapbooks of original poetry, Flight Manual and Born Beneath An Angry Star.
In 2014, Tabu co-founded a creative studio called The Operative Network alongside artists Jason Reeves and Quinn McGowan, modeled after The Empath Magic Tree House created by Jeph Loeb, Geoff Johns and Allan Heinberg. Collaboratively, they created the superhero team The Foundation and also work together with additions Damion Gonzales and Alverne Ball on properties such as T.A.S.K.
