HANOWA and SWISS MILITARY - HANOWA are brands of Hanowa Aktiengesellschaft (AG)/Ltd. Solothurn/Switzerland which designs and makes timepieces, particularly wristwatches. The company's name is an acronym for HAns NOll WAtches, a clear referral to the founder of the company.[4] The hallmark on the watches is an octagon containing a Swiss flag.[5][6]
History
The company was established in 1963 by Hans Noll and his wife Elisabeth Wirz,[2] two years after taking over a watch factory sales management in Biel, Switzerland.[4] In 1990, a second brand SWISS MILITARY - HANOWA was born.[4] While HANOWA is a brand of Biel, SWISS MILITARY - HANOWA is domiciliated in Solothurn.[7] Later, the brand SWISS EAGLE came out; in 1996 the company registered SWISS EAGLE in the US as a trademark (75159982), but failed to maintain it afterwards.[8] In 2007, Hanowa AG signed an agreement with the Indian company Network Ltd. based in Noida, Uttar Pradesh as sole distributor for their watches in the Indian domestic market, for minimally one year.[9][10][11] Hong Kong-based Fortune Concept Ltd. would become the company to distribute the brand SWISS MILITARY - HANOWA in Asia as a whole.[12]
More recently, at the 2012 TFWA World Exhibition in Cannes, Fortune Concept would unveil new SWISS MILITARY - HANOWA collections.[13] In 2014 (and before already in 2011),[14] this brand had a booth at BaselWorld, a yearly worldwide watch and jewelry show in the city of Basel, among many other Swiss watch brands;[15][16] there, the new Airport collection was presented.[17] As of 2014, Hanowa AG as well as watchmaker Roamer is led by CEO Christian Frommherz (who took the command in 2010)[18][19] and the company has service centers in 59 countries worldwide.[2][20][21] In the workplace in Biel, between 5 and 11 people would be active.[22][23]
