Harlow Mill railway station serves the eastern part of town of Harlow in Essex, England. The main station in the town is Harlow Town. The station, and all trains serving it, are operated by Abellio Greater Anglia.

History

The station was opened in 1842 as Harlow railway station on the Northern and Eastern Railway's line between London and Bishop's Stortford. It served the village of the same name, located on the London to Cambridge toll road. In the late 1940s, as the new town of Harlow was being built, the original village of Harlow was named Old Harlow and incorporated as a district in the new town. The station was renamed Harlow Mill on 13 July 1960 after the mill on the River Stort, just north of the station.

Incidents

The station was the scene of an accident which caused the deaths of two people on 15 April 2008. The driver of an approaching train spotted a man and a woman on the tracks at the station, sounded his horn and applied the emergency brake but was unable to avoid striking the pair. Police confirmed that they died at the scene. The train was not due to stop at the station and was travelling at 80 miles per hour (130 km/h).[1]

Services

All services at the station are operated by Abellio Greater Anglia. Though train services stopping here are not as frequent as Harlow Town, there are direct trains most of the day to London Liverpool Street and Cambridge, as well as services to Bishops Stortford and Stratford.
